Live Book Reading Events - Permissions guidelines
This week we have received many permissions requests from educators and librarians who wish to share live read-aloud videos of our books.
With this in mind, we have decided to allow a temporary open license for live book-reading events.
The guidelines:
Educators and librarians may read books published by Child's Play (International) Ltd. aloud and show the illustrations in live videos broadcasted on social media, and on Google Classroom.
Please note that the reader must have a physical copy of the book - this permission does not extend to videos which use scans, photos or screenshots of the book.
The video must be entirely not for profit.
Please include the phrase 'This picture book has been reproduced with permission of Child's Play (International) Ltd.' at the start or end of the video. If possible, please also read out the 'text and illustrations' copyright information listed in the front of the book.
After the online classroom period has ended, please delete the video within 24 hours.
If you will be uploading your read-aloud video to Youtube, please select 'Unlisted' in the settings.
If you go ahead with your reading, please email office@childs-play.com with a representative's contact details and a description of where and how the video was shared. We would love to hear about it!
Please encourage viewers to consider supporting the authors and illustrators by purchasing a copy of the book and/or leaving a review online.
This temporary open license is effective from now until 31 May 2022.
Titles created by Audrey and Don Wood:
We no longer have the power to grant permission for titles written and illustrated by Audrey and Don Wood.
Please contact HMH Books for Young Readers to request permission to use the following books for online storytime sessions:
The Big Hungry Bear
Quick as a Cricket
Presto Change-O
Magic Shoelaces
Scaredy Cats
Balloonia
The Princess and the Dragon
Twenty Four Robbers
You may wish to direct viewers to the printable activity sheets on our website, which can be found HERE.
If you have any further questions, please contact office@childs-play.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
Thank you for sharing stories with children who need normality at this distressing time, and for respecting our guidelines.
We wish you and your loved ones all the best and we hope that you enjoy performing the books!
